Results of the Feasibility Study

This feasibility study was mandated in a Letter of Intent dated October 29, 2019 to thoroughly review the biomass power generation project to replace aging, ‘islanded’ diesel generation. The objective of this feasibility study is to confirm whether the project is technically feasible and the most economic and environmentally sustainable option available. The study must also show proven equipment dependability, social benefits to the community and is the quickest to develop.

Conclusions of the study

The Study concludes that the proposed biomass generation facility is a viable initiative for the Algonquins of Barrier Lake First Nation as per the following:

  • The biomass generation facility is financially feasible with annual net revenues available for the community;

  • The biomass generation facility is technically feasible with proven efficient equipment to provide dependable power to the community;

  • The proposed biomass facility is more cost effective than the proposed transmission line hookup;

  • It is the quickest to develop and construct; and

  • It creates local jobs for the Algonquins of Barriere Lake First Nation.
